What a holy, holy, holy, man.
I discovered Pärt some 50 years ago performing “new” stuff – Spiegel in Speigel and Cantus in Memorium Benjamin Britten. I found it so different and satisfying compared to all the other modern writing thrown around at conservatory. The Cantus resurfaced for me recently. After so many years I realized I was just now beginning to understand the depth and mystery of making music. There is something in all music that touches a place we cannot define, we struggle to convey it to the audience, and they struggle to find it, and at one point I looked out at a young man with downs syndrome sitting with his parents in the audience. He looked directly back and flashed me a thumbs up. How the heck did it take so long…but I finally and truly discovered Arvo Pärt that night.
He makes no music at all.My post will be cancelled I know.Unfair.FREEDOM OF SPEECH???My foot!
