Saturday Night Live from Warsaw
OperaPolish National Opera’s Grand Jubilee will be a musical journey through 200 years of history of its great home Teatr Wielki. The programme offers a carefully curated selection of pieces that reflects the richness and broad variety of the music that graced the Wielki’s stage over the years, including works by Chopin, Moniuszko, Verdi, Rossini, Bizet, Mozart, Penderecki and Kilar.
Hosted by Grażyna Torbicka and Jakub Józef Orliński, the Gala presents some of the singers whose careers started at the Polish National Opera and who are now in demand all around the globe, including: Aleksandra Kurzak, Andrzej Filończyk, Piotr Buszewski and Rafał Siwek. Conducted by Patrick Fournillier, the soloists will be accompanied by the Wielki’s Chorus and Orchestra as well as the Polish National Ballet. No Polish conductor?
Interesting that Poland can produce legends and giants (Chopin, Penderecki, Rubinstein, Klemperer, etc), but not a steady stream of world-class conductors (like Finland).
Anything Jakub Józef Orliński is in is worth watching.
Klemperer was German. He self-considered himself German. The city in which he was born and the city in which he grew-up were part of Germany.
