The former General Music Director of Detmold State Theatre, Lutz Rademacher, has died suddenly in Berlin.

Originally from Lübeck, Lutz Rademacher was head of music staff at the Bayreuth Festival (2005-06), and principal conductor at Freiburg (2007-09) before serving eight years as music director in east Westphalia. Among his landmarks there were premieres of George Benjamin’s “Written on Skin” and Giselher Klebe’s “Der jüngste Tag”.

Lutz went freelance in 2021, during the tough Covid years.

I was saddened by this news. I have friends in Detmold and once attended the Opera there. The production was the Tales of Hoffman and it an was excellent performance. A really high standard both in the soloists, chorus and orchestra.

  • Anthony Sayer says:

This is horrible news. Lutz was a lovely man and highly talented. My sincerest condolences to his loved ones.

  • Maria says:

How tragic to have died at no age with all of life potentially ahead of him, only for family and friends to be left to experience a heartbreakingly sudden loss. May he rest in peace.

  • Allardyce says:

Yes, indeed, he was lovely and a good conductor. I did Salome with him in Detmold.

  • professional musician says:

Detmold is no”State Theatre”. It is one of Germany´s smallest houses with an orchestra of less than 50 members.
