Booking for the festival opened yesterday. It ended after an hour and a half when the last available ticket was sold.

‘We are delighted by the high demand, which impressively demonstrates the great interest our audience has in our programme,’ the festival glowed.

It’s Bayreuth’s 150th anniversary and loyalists turned our in force.

A sellout like this has not been seen for a decade.

Comments

  • Richard says:

The Ring cast is a decade past its prime (Bayreuth used to be known for young voices), and who wants to hear Heras Casado try Parsifal, or Lyniv or Stutzmann in Wagner, or Rienzi at all? Not to mention the sick stagings … .

Other summer European festivals: Beaune, Aix, Pesaro, Three Choirs, Salzburg and Lucerne.

    • Anon says:

Well, Richard, the people who bought tickets and caused it to sell out in 90 minutes want to hear it. As well as however many people tried to buy tickets but couldn’t.

    • Stuart says:

      Rienzi at all? Come on…

    • Anthony Sayer says:

@Richard: I love Bayreuth and wish it another hundred and fifty years at least, but couldn’t agree more about the conductors. As for Rienzi, having done it a few years ago, I’d be in no hurry to hear it again.

  • Philipp Lord Chandos says:

Yesterday…all my troubles seemed so far away.

  • GUEST says:

I requested tickets for a Ring cycle (II) but sadly had to defer for next summer. I hope that won’t mean I’m on the ‘bad list’ for the future, and back to a decade-long wait…

  • Clem says:

So much for the Comment Section Geniuses who’ve been predicting Bayreuth’s demise since… let me guess… the ChĂ©reau Ring?

  • Robert says:

Is there ever talk of a traditionally-staged Ring again at Bayreuth?

  • Critical Thinker says:

Didn’t Bayreuth alread sell out a long time ago?

  • yaron says:

The real problem with Wagner is that if the performance is not really excellent, it is unbearable. If the soloists and the conductor are just okay, the evening is going to be a very, very long one. And excellence is very rare…

  • ZandoA1 says:

Just queue up for rush tickets. In my experience they always have them.

  • Wanderer says:

How big percentage of the tickets were presold before this last online sales edition, just wondering? 90%? 95%?
