Influential Austrian composer, 88, and another, 89
RIPThe bucolic composer Gerold Amann, whose music drew inspiration from nature and animal sounds, died on November 26 at the age of 88.
A professor at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory, Amann’s students included Georg Friedrich Haas, Herbert Willi, Johanna Doderer, Gerald Futscher, and Michael Floredo.
A second Austrian composer, Viktor Fortin, passed away on Saturday at the age of 89. An expert on the music of Hans Pfitzner, Fortin was music critic for the Kronen Zeitung in Graz.
I was sorry to learn that Victor Fortin had passed away as some of my students performed one of his String Suites for String Orchestra.
